The Swenson Center held a booth at the annual QC Archives Fair at the historic Antoine LeClaire House in Davenport, IA this past weekend. Over 100 attendees toured the 1855 home by one of the founders of the city of Davenport. Antoine LeClaire (1797–1861) was a businessman, philanthropist, and the principal founder of Davenport, Iowa. He served as interpreter for the Army and spoke English, French, Spanish and a dozen Indigenous North American languages and dialects. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The purpose of the Archives Fair is to showcase cultural and historical organizations from around the Quad Cities. Organizations host tables for visitors to learn about unique collections and discover hidden gems of the Quad Cities. The Fair is held each year at a different historical location and features talks/presentations on historical topics.
