June 2022 Newsletter

Dear friends,

Two women stand in front of a dala horse
Lisa and her mother at Skansen

A few weeks ago I had the pleasant task of showing my mother around Sweden on her very first visit. Such a fun experience! While I spent much of my time meeting with library colleagues, we also visited plenty of museums and enjoyed Sweden in the springtime. One highlight was the "Come to Norden" travel poster exhibit at Nordiska Museet. These vintage travel posters show how the Nordic countries marketed themselves to tourists from the rest of Europe and beyond, showcasing 130 posters created between 1890 and 1960. Check it out!

School may be out, but we don't slow down at the Swenson Center! We have lots of upcoming events announced in this newsletter, but remember you can always check out our Events page to stay up-to-date between newsletters. If you're in the Chicago suburbs, be sure to attend Geneva's Swedish Days and visit our booth in Sweden Väst. We will be there selling our popular dishcloths!

And finally, a friendly reminder that the Birdies for Charity pledges are due soon. The Birdies program is an important program for us. Not only does your full contribution come to the Center, but the program also donates an additional 5-10%, making your donation of any size go even further! Your donation helps fund fun events like the Nordic Book Club and Genealogy Club. We are going paperless this year, so simply click the link and enter Bird number "2132" to donate today. Thank you!

Glad midsommar,

Lisa Huntsha
